My New Car

Filed under: Hybrid car, Technology — ssteini @ 4:59 pm

2007 Toyota Prius

Since my new car involves so much technology, I thought it met my blog guidelines (i.e. libraries, technology & travel), so here’s a photo of it! I’ve had it exactly one week, and so far I like it. It’s interesting to watch the screen on the dash to see where the energy is coming from – gas motor, electric motor, and/or battery … don’t worry, I still watch the road too! I think it will take a little practice to get the best fuel efficiency. Right now, I think I’m averaging about 45 miles per gallon.

I haven’t driven it too much yet. Other than driving it home from the dealership in Peoria, I’ve only taken it on my usual short trips – work, church, grocery store. And today I road my bike to work! It’s way too nice to drive, and it’s still better for me and the environment than driving, even if I drive a hybrid.

Blog Intro

Filed under: General — ssteini @ 7:42 pm

I’ve considered creating a blog for quite a while, but while I was working full-time and going to school part-time, I never seemed to find the time. During a two-day Social Software & Libraries workshop by Jenny Levine and Michael Stephens, I registered a blog and created a few test posts, which I have since deleted. The workshop also covered RSS feeds, wikis, IM, etc. While I was already familar with all of these technologies, the workshop served as a catalyst for me to actually get more involved with these technologies (e.g. create my own blog, set up my own RSS aggregator).

Since this is my first real blog post, I thought I should provide a brief introduction. I plan to post about libraries, technology, and travel … three things that I really enjoy! Right now the blog format is very basic, but I hope to experiment with the widgets in the side bar to create a blog that works well for me.  I’m also going to see if I can finally figure out how to sort the Blogroll in an order other than alphabetical.
